The Community

Our community at Priory Nazareth in ‘Oude Munt’ belongs to the Benedictine Order of the Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

Our Charism, life and joy is adoration day and night of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Our Lady is our Mother Abbess to whom we are all deeply devoted.

Our community numbers 21 (Dutch, German, Luxembourger, English, Irish). Of these, 12 are nuns, 2 simple professed, 2 regular oblates (one with definite promise and 1 with temporary), 1 novice, 1 postulant and three candidates. The ages range from 27 to 91; the average age is 60 years.

We live under the rule of St Benedict with the spirituality of Mother Mectilde.

This Branch of the Benedictine Order was founded in Paris in the 17th Century by Mother Mectilde of the Blessed Sacrament.

Our work in the monastery is part our daily devotion as we endeavour to stay present to His Eucharistic presence constantly exposed in our Chapel. Lectio Divina and interiorising the daily Gospel is an integral part of the Benedictine Rule. It helps us to stay focused on Christ, whom we strive to emulate.

Our daily work is simple and humble, small works done with great Love in a spirit of contemplation. It leaves us open to the tranquillity of being united with our Lord.
